Double your SNAP dollars and buy more fresh fruits and vegetables with Double Up Food Bucks at the Geary Community Hospital Farmers' Market. Double Up Food Bucks is a SNAP matching program that helps low-income families eat more healthy food and supports local farmers.
HOW DOES IT WORK
People who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as food stamps) can swipe their EBT cards at the Live Well Geary County tent to buy SNAP tokens and receive a matching number of Double Up Food Bucks tokens to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Double Up Food Bucks program is funded by a $2.9 million USDA Food Insecurity Incentive grant and $2.9 million in matching funds from private foundations and local governments, for a total of $5.8 million. Over the next three years, coalition partners will expand Double Up to 68 farmers markets and 117 grocery stores in the Kansas City and St. Louis metro areas, eastern Kansas, and central and southwest Missouri.
